DoubleCleaner: Documentation

Call: java - cp DoubleCleaner.jar DoubleCleaner
Programmed with: JDK1.3.0. (in addition, runs under 1.2.2, not however with still older versions)
This fully mouse-steered program, seeks out double-occurring files, and offers deletion and filter functions.
To the function of the program: At the beginning of the program first a filter window (FilterFrame [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/FilterFrame.gif]) appears, in which one can enter, which paths and files are to be examined, or which not (inclusive vs. exclusive). Subsequently, the program examines the indicated files. If two files from the name are alike, contents of the files are examined, agree contents, include the file name of this program into the list of the double files. If reading is final, a list (ListFrame [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/ListFrame.gif]) is indicated, in which the file names are listed, which occur twice (or several times) (at the beginning of each list entry the frequency stands). Now one can doubleclick by mouse on an entry of the list, and a window (DoubleListFrame [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/DoubleListFrame.gif]) comes up, in which the paths of the individual files are indicated. Since it can occur that e.g. 4 files from the name are alike, but to agree only in each case, a number before each list entry of the new window, which indicates which files from contents, stands for 2 from contents is alike (number resembles: same contents). Would one like to delete now a file, one does need here only to select (mouse-click on the list entry) and than press the delete button above (hereby the file with the indicated path becomes after repeated safety inquiry (of Are you sure? (DeleteAreYouSure [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/DeleteAreYouSure.gif])) irrevocably deleted). If they want to take the file name simply only from the list, WITHOUT deleting it, press the remove button. If you want to take all files from the list, press the remove-all-button. If they want to close the window, press simply the ok-button completely down. If you want to return to the filter window (FilterFrame [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/FilterFrame.gif]), select in the menu the menu option "filter" above. In order to leave the program, you can either above select in the menu the menu option "exit", or simply close the window by mouse-click.
By the way (if not yet clearly): The comparisons go drive-spreading, i.e. if a file on CD-ROM occurs, and on e.g. C: also occurs, these files naturally also in the list are indicated.
During reading (after clicking the start comparing button in the filter window) the program progress with a bar is indicated. When scanning the bar in the window (progress bar relative [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/ProgressBar1.gif]) indicates the relationship from read to filtered files (suffix filtering).
Safety references:  Theoretically the operation, is unproblematic and security from deletion of wrong files is given, there before each erasing process the exact path and name of the file in a safety inquiry (DeleteAreYouSure [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/DeleteAreYouSure.gif]) indicated.
If you start the program at first, and examine their main hard disc, will state you that there are a great many files, which occur twice but delete NEVER any system files such as .DLL or .INI files, since does not raise otherwise individual programs, or even the entire computer any longer. Delete thus only files, which created by ONESELF.
Special areas of application of the program:  The program is ideally, if you get yourselves several files from the Internet, like e.g. image files. Since one often loses here the overview, which files one has now already on the hard disc and which not, one only needs to start this program and delete double files.
Examples: 1. Example:  You want to examine all attached hard discs up to the drive A:\. Here only files with the ending (suffix) .java, .class, .jpg and .gif are to be examined .
For this you must in the filter window (FilterFrame [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/FilterFrame.gif]) in the subregion path press the add button, and in the appearing window (PathInput [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/PathInput.gif]) enter A:\. Subsequently, you must adjust down exclusive (i.e. all paths (resources) to be examined, up to the entered paths).
In the subregion, you enter also over the add button (window goes on (suffix inputs [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/SuffixInput.gif])) the different endings (theoretically you could indicate here also only an individual letter, and the program would examine all files (and/or to examine), those with this letter stops). In order to examine only exactly these files, you must select down Inclusiv.
Now you need to only press the start button, and the program catches to their indicated devices to examine due to the conditions indicated above. If you liked to terminate the procedure prematurely, press simply cancel.
2. Example:  You want to examine the whole hard discs C:\ and D:\, however not the directory WINDOWS, and not files, which end on .DLL and .INI.
For this you must specify in the subregion path all devices, except to C: \ and D:\. Now you can , via the add button in the coming up window, click the filechooser button (normal Java filechooser (Chooser [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/Chooser.gif] opens)) and comfortably select the directory WINDOWS. After click the button add to list, the directory appears in the subregion path. Select the exclusive mode there.
In the subregion you must enter the suffixes .DLL and .INI.
After pressing the start compare files-button the investigation procedure is started.
Possibly arising problems:  In the filter window in the subregion path, you can enter e.g. not at the same time C:\ and C:\WINDOWS (led to an error message (PathConflict [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/PathConflict.gif])), since you must decide whether them now, e.g. in the inclusive mode, which want to examine complete hard disc C:\ or only the directory C:\WINDOWS. Both to indicate at the same time makes no sense.
The program does not recognize files, which are alike from contents, but have different names, because the primary criteria is the file name.
Handling the Java file chooser, which is adjusted by directory-selection, makes sometimes problems, e.g. the drives do not leave themselves to select (e.g.: C:\) (no notion because of which is), but these can be entered also directly in the text field (in the window PathInput [DL::all/images_con/projects/doublecleaner/PathInput.gif]), without file chooser.
If you do not indicate a suffix, you must select down the exclusive mode.
A small tip:  You can produce under Windows also a small batch file, which you connect with a linkage, thus you can comfortably start the program also by mouse-click from the desktop (or from the start board).
