VirtualDub-Timer: Documentation

Fundamentally with this extension of VirtualDub did not much change, except that when pressing "F6" and/or when selecting the menu option "Capture/Capture video" in the capture-mode now the left shown window appears.
By Quickstart button (on the top right) the capturing is, without timer, started immediately, until broken off these "by hand".
One would like to take a programmed capturing one has 2 options:
1. Computer runs up to the capturing: In this case one enters according to various data for the capture format, frame rate, video compression, audio compression, capture file, etc. simply the start & stop time, decides whether one VirtualDub or even the whole computer after the capturing wants to shut down and presses then on start timer. Thus the capture is accomplished to the given time.
2. Computer is switched on only briefly before the capturing: In this case is to be carried out somewhat more preliminary work. One must store all attitudes, which one wants to have later with the capturing (video/audio compression, capture file, etc.) in VirtualDub, so that the admission receives the correct format when late calling of VirtualDub. One reaches this, if one in the capture mode the menu option "Capture/Preferences…" calls, the button "Use current Capture file" presses, all checkboxes (4 pieces) before the "save…" - attitudes sets and the preferences dialog over "ok" leaves.
Now one adjusts everything as in the first option, additionally one sets afterwards the checkbox "active" and presses then the save button. Thus the up-to-date programmed capture is activated and stored. For the storage of the data a small text file on drive "C:" with the name "VirtualDub_config.txt" used.
When next starting of VirtualDub now automatically, after a 5 second time delay, into the capture mode changed, the overlay deactivated for performance reasons during the capturing, the TimedStart window is indicated and the capture is accomplished to the given time.
Also naturally one must still provide for it, that VirtualDub after the automatic start-up of the computer (e.g. over attitudes in the BIOS), about 7 minutes earlier, is started. In addition one provides on the best a linkage which one pulls into "autostart" and/or "Startup" in the starting menu of Windows.
Remark: After a programmed and accomplished capture if one started VirtualDub again, again automatically changed into the capture mode and a capture tries to accomplish. This happens until one unset the checkbox "active" in the TimedStart window and clicks afterwards the save button.
Several programmed captures are not possible!
Problems: Perhaps it can occur with certain drivers to TV-cards, which directly after the start-up of the computer the transmitter adjusted last is not adjusted. Therefore at the best one tries the whole capture procedure out, before a possibly important capture is lost.
Notes: When starting VirtualDub and an existing active timer always wait, until into capture mode is changed and the TimedStart window is indicated.
If a programmed capture is running, one can affect and or prevent the end status (close or shutdown) only directly after the capture for short time.
A current capture can be broken off like an immediately started capture also by mouse button or escape key. I.e. caution is required here! At the best one deactivates the abort by the mouse button in the "Capture/Settings…" - dialog.
Small extras: Indicate the average CPU extent of utilization.
Storing the capture information (right information bar) into a log file with the name of the capture file extended by ".txt". So one can after a capture still reconstruct, how high average CPU extent of utilization was, how many frames were droped, etc.
During an automatic closing or shut-down of the computer this circumstances are indicated every 5 seconds briefly during the capture with the remainder time (close = VirtualDub to close, shutdown = shutdown computer).
After a programmed capture one has time to decide e.g. in the "shutdown" - mode if one wants to really shut down the computer.
