To link PIEdit with certain files one must proceed under Windows XP as follows: Best you place the entire PIEdit directory in the directory "Program files" or "programs". Select a file their file suffix one wants to link with PIEdit, with the right mouse button click and select in the coming up context menu "open with/choose program…".
Now click the browse button down right Change to the directory of PIEdit (in the directory "programs" or "Program files") and select there the bat file (PIEdit.bat). Now select the checkbox "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Thus this type of file is now always called with PIEdit. To noting is however that if one shifts the PIEdit directory, the associations are lost again. Therefore it is advisable to put the entire PIEdit directory as at the beginning mentioned, into the directory "Program files" or "programs". Under older Windows versions like e.g. Windows 98 the procedure would have to run similarly.
