Functionality of the editor

In following enumeration the pictures of the buttons from the toolbars are always represented, which release the function:

File-Actions
ButtonShort-DescriptionDescription
closeClose
newNewone provides a new file over this Button, the suffix can be indicated immediately. Thus e.g. syntax highlighting of the new file is immediately possible
openOpenMultiple file selection possible (simply several files in the FileChooser can be marked) /
open selectedOpen (selected text)opens the file/URL whose path is selected in the text
saveSave
saveasSave As

- with safety inquiries for the current document
- comfortable selection of files with filter
- several files at the same time loadable and/or representably (in different tabs
- is syntax highlighting to the type of file applicably becomes this syntax highlighted automatically.

Support for different operating-systems
ButtonShort-DescriptionDescription
type_dosDOSDOS files have as line interlacing a CR (0d) followed from a LF (0a)
type_unixUnixUnix files have as line interlacing only a LF (0a)
type_binaryBinarythe binary file mode does not differ momentarily from the Unix mode. This is adjusted only if a binary file (e.g. a JPG picture) is loaded, which makes little sense in the momentary version of PIEdit.

- Can be changed here by clicking between the different file types. => change of the type of file possible, by load, changing, and following saveing.
- when loading files the correct type is recognized automatically

ZipIdeaMode (Zip + Ciphering)
ButtonShort-DescriptionDescription
ZipIdeaMode onZipIdeaMode oncauses while storage that the file is coded compressed (zipped) and by means of IDEA algorithm enciphered / the password is required when turning the mode on
ZipIdeaMode offZipIdeaMode off

- one can reach a change of the password by disabling and enabling the mode.

TwinMode
ButtonShort-DescriptionDescription
twinmode_onTwin mode on
twinmode_offTwin mode off

- double storage of a file, i.e. text and rtf storage at the same time
- this mode makes it possible to use in pure text files styles, without these are lost when closing the file. This is being reached by also producing a rtf file parallel to the text file. On later this is recognized automatically, and one has the style information again.
- ideal when programming, since styles can be used, in order to emphasize determined code lines

Diverse
ButtonShort-DescriptionDescription
printPrintwith Windows: Use Java from the version 1.4.0, in order to receive a good printing quality, since starting from this version the text is printed also as text, and not as picture (which entailed a miserable quality). specification: see below
file informationFile informationinformation about type of file, length, etc.
wrap_onLine Wrap ontext is wrapped at the line end in the representation
wrap_offLine Wrap offtext not wrapped => scrollbar for the longer lines
to_hexRepresentation of the current file in HEX codethe actual loaded file represented in HEX code as new tab / this generated file to change or store makes momentarily little sense, since it is represented as it is stored.
executeExecuting programsi.e. arbitrary programs can be executed / meaningful application purpose: Compiler calls or to start compiled program / specification: see Functionality of the Exe-button

- one wants to look for a concrete straight not visible text, to produce simply by the new button a new tab, enter there the search text, mark, then by means of the set button set this, change into corresponding file (tab), and search back or forward for there.

- twin mode files: So-called twin files, thus files are doubly stored. (see above with TwinMode on and/or switching off)

Adjustable toolbars:
- Possibility to separate the 3 toolbars completely from the editor window or to place these at the left or right edge perpendicularly.
